Why Things Don’t Stay Organized - Revisited

I’ve been thinking about this since I posted the two-part ’series’.  It seems like I cannot let go of this so I must add another post.

Things don’t stay organized because I do not live alone.

Well, I for one know that things would not stay organized even if I DID live alone.  But the addition of one or more people is a big clincher when it comes to things staying organized for more than a day.  That is why I am always on the hunt for the organization ’system’ that will bring order to my spaces and help them stay ordered.

One thing that has helped is ‘buy-in’.  I can discuss my organizational plan with my husband and get his input and ultimately his ‘buy-in’ to my new system.  When the kids are older they will have to be involved in the ‘buy-in’.  We’ll try something and see if it works.  I am constantly tweaking the plan.  Until there is a balance struck between organized and slightly disheveled!

A big part of buy-in is having a plan that realistically fits our lifestyle and doesn’t BLAME anyone for our current chaos.  I think about how we use our space and try to come up with solutions that fit closely to how we’re already working with what we have.  (same as I do for my clients)

It is a never ending cycle:

    1) Something is driving one of us crazy
    2) I think of a possible solution and discuss
    3) We try to implement said solution
    4) We toss the ideas that don’t work and try new things until we find balance
    5) Something else drives us crazy and we start again!

Organizing distractions: Another great contest!
